Oil on board. Depicting a seated bearded man wearing his tzitzis over his shirt, a horned goat, and two boys in short pants and tzitzis, one of whom is wearing the distinctive brimmed cap that boys and young Jewish men wore in Poland. Signed lower right “I. Schor”. Ilya Schor (1904 – 1961), a master craftsman of Jewish ceremonial objects as well as jewelry, was also a talented painter. Here, he illustrates a shtetl scene from the memory of his younger years in pre-war Poland.
