Lithographed tin, 1950’s. The Telz Yeshiva (also known as “Telshe”), was originally founded in Lithuania in 1875. Due to the destruction of all Jewish life from Eastern Europe during World War Two, the original Telz yeshiva was closed down and relocated to Cleveland, Ohio in 1941 by a group of Lithuanian students from the original Telz and their “Rebbe”, Rabbi Chaim Stein. This box showcases the desire of the surviving Orthodox Jews of Europe to continue to practice their values and ideals of Judaism in their new and unfamiliar homeland, America.
